HWA CHONG LIBRARY COUNCIL

The Hwa Chong Library Council serves as the school's reading ambassadors, playing an integral role in promoting reading throughout the school campus. Through different activities and promotional items, the council's aim is simple.

Activities

Library Week and World Book Day

Held in term 2 annually, this is a week full of activities for the school population to take part in. From poetry competitions to share-a-book competitions, there is sure to be something for you to take part in. Do not miss out the popular Big Book Sale, where there is a wide variety of books for you to choose from. Through these activities, we encourage students to read, widening their knowledge in different aspects. At the same time, students are able to hone their public speaking skills whenever they take part in our competitions. This is proudly organised by the Library Council, the English and Chinese department.

Pseudo Book Club

The Hwa Chong Library Council takes part in Pseudo Book Club, held at Jurong Regional Library. For each session, we will share a book with the public and undergo a discussion with questions related to the book. If you are looking forward to a session of meaningful disucssion on a book or is interested in learning about a new book, do drop by! Everyone is welcome to join us for the book club.

Hwa Chong-Nanyang Book Club

Every year, Hwa Chong Library Council and Nanyang English Society will hold one to two collabrated book discussion sessions. During these sessions, we get to learn more about a certain book title and have insights to discussion questions. These sessions can be in different formats. For instance, we had a book hunt last year. Both parties take turn to host the sessions.

Library Camp

Every June, the council has an annual camp held in school to promote bonding among our members. This is a 2 days 1 night camp. The secondary 3s will have the opportunity to plan and organise the camp, being part of the Organising Team. This is a good opportunity for them to maximise their leadership potential and be exposed to different leadership roles. During the camp, we take part in external Community Involvement Programme organised by the National Library Board. The annual Library Challenge is also held during this camp where our student librarians put their librarianship skills to test.

即席演讲比赛

华中图书馆协会所举办的活动之一包括了低年级的即席演讲比赛。在这比赛里，中一中二的同学得当场发挥。比赛的目的是要考验学生们的当场应变能力以及他们是否能不能临危不乱。由于事先参赛者、评判和观众都不知道题目是什么，因此大家都拭目以待，期待看参赛者是否能够当场应变，以题目来演讲出精彩的故事。这活动是由华中图书馆协会以及华文部联合举办的。
